Who will take care of the world? Prof. Kelly Skiff, co-director of the Stanford Faculty Development Center for Medical Teachers, suggests that rather than considering that “doctors know best”, we should instead be asking “how can doctors contribute their best in providing care for the world?” He describes the historical evolution of medical training and trainee competencies, then discusses where physicians might play a bigger role in medical education and how to help them play this role through an emphasis on collaborative care with patients, health delivery systems, and society.
